Farmer Ate By His Own Hogs
When I read this article, I became very frightened. My dad and I raise hogs for money and I think this
could easily happen to me. In other articles I have read, many sows (mother hogs) have attacked people
because they came too close to their piglets. If they do injure you or get you on the ground, there is a
possibility of them eating you. People all over the world raise hogs and need to be aware of how to protect
themselves when being around hogs. There is several safety precautions people can use: keeping a blunt
object in hand at all times or using a hog shield so they cannot attack you.
The author talks about what the purpose of the hogs was for; which was to sell to local 4H kids in Coos
County. Also the author talks about the remains of the man and how his death might have occurred. Plus,
the author tells what foods hogs eat in comparison to other animals.

The author does explain the different variables of how the hogs could have killed the man or even how
natural occurrences or foul play could have been involved in the death of the man.
I definitely agree with the author that hogs ate the man. When hogs are low in protein, they eat their
piglets. I find it very easy for them to eat a human since they are cannibalistic. Also, since the hogs weighed
700 pounds and were reported to be aggressive, it would have been easy for them to knock over a 70 year
old man. I also agree that hogs are omnivores since they do eat corn and different grains, but as well other
other hogs. I do not understand why officers suspect foul play. He was an old man who was either
overpowered by the hogs, or died by natural occurrences. Nobody had a grudge or anything against him,
which is why I find the big investigation to be a waste of time and money. I believe it was just a freak
accident that could not have changed no matter the circumstances.
