Pity

I beleive the dying nazi in The Sunflower should have been forgiven. "Thank you-that is my mother's letter." I think Simon should have forgiven the nazi because he thanked him for picking up his mother's letter. That right there is a miracle within itself; a nazi forgiving a jew. The letter was very important to the nazi so I think Simon should have been humbled by the nazi's courage to thank a jew..."I have longed to talkabout it to a Jew and beg forgiveness from him." The nazi is on his death bed pleading for forgiveness and he won't die in peace if Simon doesn't forgive him. This man was forced to do bad things to jews; it's not like he wanted to do those things. If Simon had a compassionate soul the least he could do is forgive a dying man who ment no harm.
